[COMPETITION] 2017 KBS K-Pop World Festival (Singapore Preliminaries)

The search is on for international talents to perform at the 2017 K  Pop World Festival in
Changwon! With preliminary rounds being held in around 70 countries, this global competition
is the ideal stage to showcase your talent in bid to represent Singapore in the upcoming
stages of the competition. Shortlisted preliminary finalists can look forward to an
ultimate chance to visit Korea to experience the Korean culture and have the chance to
share the stage with some of the biggest names in Korean Pop Music industry like TWICE
and BTS!

Returning for the 4th year running, the KBS K-Pop World Festival (Singapore Preliminaries)
is set to take centre stage as a stand alone event, at Our Tampines Hub on 5th August
2017, with Korean Idol Diva Ailee, making a special appearance both on stage and as part
of the judging panel!

Unlike in previous years, the competition is now open to all who work/study and reside in
Singapore excluding tourist. Participants should also be of non-Korean descent and will be
representing Singapore for this competition.

Interested participants may compete under two categories – vocal and dance performance.
As the competition intensifies, all performance groups will be required to lip-sync to their
cover songs during their performances. The winners of the performance category are then
required to submit a separate audio recording of their vocals for the international judging
process. While there is no restriction on the number of members for performance groups, it
is strongly recommended that they have the same number of members as the original
K-Pop band that they are covering.

Under the vocal category, there is no limit to the number of vocalists per act. However KBS
reserves the right to remove any vocalist from the subsequent rounds if they are deemed to
not be of significant contribution to the team. Vocal acts are now given the option to have
up to 2 additional backup dancers to spice up their performance.

Interested participants may register their interest via our official website from now till 6th
July.

Auditions will be held over two days from 8th-9th July. Thereafter, shortlisted applicants will
be invited to battle it out live on stage at the Singapore Preliminary of the K-Pop World
Festival 2017, where the top two acts (chosen from both Vocals and Performance categories
combined) will move on to participate in the next round of online judging, representing
Singapore in the competition against their international counterparts.

[TRAVEL] Experience Digital Exhibitions at National Museum Singapore for Free!

Have you ever visited the Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands, where the Future World exhibition is held? The exhibition showcases 4 different themes, Nature, Town, Park and Space, and it showcases artworks by using digital technology. Prices are at $13 for Singaporeans adults, and $10 for local students, $6 for children. However, there is a new exhibition over at National Museum Singapore where it provides free entry to Singaporeans and PRs!

Under the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings, the creators behind Future World, Team Lab brings 69 drawings from the collection to life.  The Story of the Forest exhibition is located at the Glass Rotunda, and it begins with a bridge with floral artworks all around you. (Beware you might feel a little giddy due to the movement of the artworks!)

The exhibition continues with a two-story Rotunda route, where it is surrounded by not only the forest but animals. The Upper Rotunda has a different habitat as compared to the Lower Rotunda but visitors are able to spend as much time as they want in the exhibition. (And it is not only one way, visitors are able to head up to the Upper Rotunda again.)  The weather will change too, from time to time, it will ‘rain’ and visitors will be able to see how the animals in the exhibition react to it.

The experience will be complete when you lie down and look at the different flora in the Glass Rotunda which will ‘grow’ and change.  There is also an application where visitors are able to enhance their visit at Story of the Forest, where they are able to “hunt” and “capture” the flora and fauna with their phone. Visitors will be rewarded with insights to the artworks from the collections which inspired the creations.

Thus, head down to National Museum Singapore for an immersive and educational experience! There are also other exhibition in the museum such as the Singapore History Gallery, We Built A Nation, etc, where visitors are able to learn more about Singapore.

Open daily from 10am to 7pm, last admission for Story of the Forest is at 6.15pm. Free Admission to all galleries for Singaporeans & PRs.

[COVERAGE] tvN’S MEGA DRAMA ENTOURAGE PRESS CONFERENCE WITH MAIN CASTS SEO KANG-JOON & LEE DONG-HWI

img_9366-1

On Tuesday, 22nd of November, two main cast of tvN’s mega drama, Entourage, Seo Kang Joon and Lee Dong Hwi had a press conference with media from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan at RWS Singapore.

They shared their favourite memories about filming the drama, and travelling around Korea was Seo Kang Joon’s favourite moment. The drama was filmed not only in Seoul, thus it required the actors to travel around places for filming. The casts will also play games with punishments, and Lee Dong Hwi lost in a game when they were in Busan and he had to stand in the pouring rain for 5 minutes. In the end, the poor actor caught a cold. The MC commented that fans are going to be all ready and shelter him from the rain next time, come on fans ;).

img_9396

Entourage is a Korean re-make of the popular US drama series of the same title, starring Seo Kang-joon, Cho Jin-woong, Lee Gwang-soo, Park Jung-min and Lee Dong-hwi. The drama surrounds the “bromance” among young popular actor, Cha Young-bin (Seo Kang-Joon) and his childhood best buddies Lee Ho-jin (Park Jung-Min), Cha Joon (Lee Kwang-Soo) and “Turtle” Geobook (Lee Dong-hwi), as well as the interesting encounter with Kim Eun-gab (Cho Jin-woong), CEO of Cha Young-bin’s management agency. (Text from tvN Asia)

However, both actors cleared that they are the total opposites of their characters in the drama and in real life. The role Seo Kang Joon takes on in the drama is a top star in Korea, which is what he wants to become, lives a extravagant life that he wonders if its the way how Korean top star live. He always stay at home to play with his cat, or invites his friends over for beer or walk along Han River alone. Unlike his character in the drama, where Cha Young Bin goes to a lot of hot places to hang out with his friends. The only similarity he has with Young Bin is that he will suit his friends’ desire and do what they want.

img_9118

As for Lee Dong Hwi, he is also the type of person which likes to stay at home to play his playstation. Unlike his character which likes to go out a lot and is very dependent on his friends for everything as he doesn’t earn money, he is a very independent person who will like to solve his own problems without relying on his friends. Both of them are actually total opposites of their character where in real life they love to stay at home.

Dong Hwi also commented that acting is not easy for him, as every single second in his acting career is a challenge for him. He is always worrying about what role he should take on next. He gave his best in his role of being a good friend of Young Bin and he hope that it is being delivered to the viewers through the show.

img_8993-1

Seo Kang Jun wanted to show a different image from his role Baek In Ho in his previous drama, Cheese in the Trap, he too, was also worrying about the type of roles he choose to take on for his future plans. Baek In Ho is a young man in his 20’s so he is a simple guy chasing after his dreams with a sad story, while in Entourage he is playing as a growing celebrity in the entertainment industry. Thus it is two very different characters for him.

In Reply 1998, Lee Dong Hwi was portraying as a lonely guy with no friends and he has to strive for everything alone. While in Entourage, he has a famous celebrity friend thus the lifestyle is very different. In Entourage, he plays a witty character but which is actually a total opposite of what he is in real life.

On why viewers should watch this drama, Seo Kang Joon commented that it conveys the happiness of the entertainment industry and it about love and friendship. Lee Dong Hwi also added on that if anyone is curious about the Korean entertainment industry, they should watch the drama. It also shows how the main cast mature through the industry.
